Connecting  To Our World Through Music, Art and Movement

 

Overview

This project is intended to connect Chittenden South Supervisory Union through Web 2.0 tools and the cultures of the World.

  • Teachers and students will best support 21st century education outcomes by focusing on 21st century standards, assessments, curriculum, and instruction, and learning environments.
  • Each school within CSSU will study and present the music, art or movement of another culture.

 

Objectives

This project will have the following impact on our schools:

  • Students will be interacting with one another through this wiki.
  • Students will learn about other cultures through interdisciplinary approaches.
  • Students will participate in an interactive culminating event.

Timeline

  • Planning: August
  • Kickoff: September
  1.  SCS begins preparing unit on India  
  2.  ABS (just music as of now) begins preparing unit on Japan
  3. Collaboration Through wiki: Ongoing
  • Celebration:
  1. December- SCS presents to District Schools
  2. April- ABS (just music as of now) presents to District Schools

 

Tasks

  • Present to interested parties (Deb and Diana)
  • Choose Culture of Study (Vasanthi)
  • Update wiki as needed (All)
  • Meetings between teachers involved (All)
  • Comunication between District Schools via Video Conferencing Software (Diana) As of 11/1, Charlotte and Allen Brook are connected through OOVOO. (oovoo.com) As of 11/12. Hinesburg is also connected.
  • Funding needed to support video conferencing (Minimal funding)

 

Format of Shelburne Presentation:

  • Begin with song from India
  • Pop-up facts- Children will stand, and present some facts about the music and culture of India
  • Students will perform a dance
  • Questions from Allen Brook, Charlotte, Hinesburg students for our performers

 

Format of Allen Brook School Presentation:

  • Mrs. T-H and students will begin with a Japanese drawing song. You can try it along with us! You'll need paper and a writing utensil.  We'll be using small white boards and markers.
  • Students will perform a Japanese hand game.
  • Questions from Charlotte, Hinesburg, and Shelburne for our performers.
